Are you a Blessing?

One of the first services we went to at Transformation Church was focused around being a blessing to those around you-- and especially to those you are in relationships with. I think that's a great way to look at relationships and is sadly against how society tells us to look at things. In the United States especially, we are taught to be self-centered and to get involved in things that can, "do something for us." When the truth of it is, we should focus our lives on what we can do for other people.

Day 29 of, "The Purpose Driven Life," tells us that our purpose is service. What can we do to make an impact and leave the world better than it was when we got here? If anyone was a Girl Scout-- or probably Boy Scout, too-- you were taught that when you go somewhere (camping or otherwise), you should leave the site cleaner than it was when you got there. I think our purpose of service is basically the same--our lives should leave our world better than it was.

To tie the two points together-- If you live a life of service, you will be a blessing to everyone around you. If you live your life to be a blessing to others, you will want to make their lives better and not simply worry about what that person can do for you. In turn, your relationships will be better and more fulfilling.

Sometimes it is hard to go against what the world teaches us-- and it takes a lot of practice-- but, when the world tells you one thing, turn to the Bible to see what God says. If you are unclear, talk to someone who can clearly explain it to you.

The only challenge I have for you today is to focus on being a blessing to those around you! Feedback on what you are doing is welcome and appreciated-- betteru4life@yahoo.com!

Meet Carrie! She has been one of my best friends for my entire life... When we were in Kindergarten, we even tried to glue our hands together so our parents couldn't make us go home. Even though times have changed and we no longer spend each and every day together, I know she is someone that I can always call and always count on. She is in Grad School at the University of Georgia right now and I am in South Carolina-- so, we don't see each other near as much as I would like. But, the thing about strong friendships and relationships-- Distance doesn't matter. We can still be close and still count on each other because we have spent a lifetime proving our friendship. Think about that!
